Membership Organisation Survey

Over half of membership bodies lose at least 10 per cent of their members each year, and only 6 per cent achieve retention rates higher than 95 per cent. Aspects critical to member retention were examined with 25 professional institutes and trade associations in our membership organisations survey .

Do you measure member benefit take up ?

NO: 62.5%  YES: 37.5%

Less than half of respondents measure benefit take-up. Lack of time and resource is cited as the main reason, although 10% are planning to do so in the future

Almost a quarter of respondents were unable to provide any statistics on attitude surveys because a) they had never undertaken one, or b) had not captured the results. For those who had statistics, the results were varied

 

Do you include membership benefit take up as a selling tool in renewal documentation ?

Only 35%

Only 35% of respondents measuring benefit take-up actually use it as a renewal selling tool, meaning that just 14% of our total survey population articulate the true value realised by their member, at the time of renewal.

 

How many individual communications do you send to a member annually ?

Due to the varying nature of communications, responses are best viewed as an average. Of the membership organisations surveyed, the average numbers of journals sent in a given year was 9, ebulletins 20, newsletters 3 and surveys 1
